Why should my business utilize a blog and social media? What is social media anyway? What can it do for me? To many small to medium sized businesses, (and even large corporations) these questions are emerging. And the early adopters will get the early advantages.

What is Social Media?
There are many technical and philosophical answers from many sources. The description from searchenginewatch.com defines it as:
“A category of sites that is based on user participation and user-generated content. They include social networking sites like LinkedIn or Facebook, social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, social news sites like Digg or Reddit, and other sites that are centered on user interaction.”
And I would add micro blogging like Twitter , video and photo sharing like YouTube and Flickr, Podcasts and of course, blog websites in general. Blogs are part of social media. And this is all about communities and conversations.

Everyday I get asked “How do I make my business popular on Google”? I answer “With a good blog strategy“. The cat is out of the bag. Nothing works better for good search engine results than constantly changing and dynamic content with good keyword research and implementation. We did not invent this nor are we the only mouthpiece extolling the virtues. But we have a different approach.
This Is Not a DIY Website
The Thirdpartyblogs.com website is not intended to appeal to “Do It Yourself” types who are educating themselves and are building a blog by themselves. The current state of WordPress and hosting install scripts makes this part of the process super easy. No, it is aimed at businesses that scratch their heads and wonder why that website that they invested thousand of dollars into, from a “big time” developer, does not get ANY measurable traffic through web search. It is aimed at businesses who think there should be an ROI from their web marketing investment. It is aimed at businesses that would like to win certain search terms and increase revenue. (more…)
You think you might need A Business Blog. Everyone is doing it. But should you redesign your existing website to add a blog? Should you just “bolt on” a blog feature? Companies that provide products and services to a local or regional marketplace want to do well with local SEARCHES in Google, Yahoo and Bing. They want to be at the top of page one on Google search results pages. They have different challenges than companies that market to national and international marketplaces.
For instance, consider service businesses that are marketing to a metro area. Like “plumbers – Greater Metro New York area” or ” Attorneys in Minneapolis/St. Paul”. In the past, this was typically a “yellow pages” phone book function. But online search has radically changed that. Phone book yellow page ads are on the path to extinction. They are not dynamic, are linear and differentiation is difficult. How many full page ads in a row for one service do you want to see?

Third Party Blogs is not just about SEO content but it is about great seo search engine optimisation as well. And don’t forget research and promotion.
Fuel to Feed The Search Engines
Good SEO content is the ongoing fuel that feeds the search engines. You need consistent posts to your blog to keep the search engines coming back on a regular basis, as well as utilizing great keywords to rank highly with when potential readers use organic search. Good SEO content always starts with great keyword research. Even in the most competitive marketplaces, there are opportunities to rank highly for some terms specific to your marketplace. They may not be the top five searched terms in volume, but those are usually very competitive and will take a long time to rank for. So there are other terms that you can attack. Even Brent D Payne of the Tribune companies (Chicago Tribune, LA Times and more) used this exact approach to increase monthly website visits by 20 million. Read this great blog. (more…)
Third Party Blogs has just partnered with a new client to build website traffic in a very competitive space, hardwood flooring and wood floors. The WordPress blog website is woodflooringtips.com. There are some major corporate players in this marketplace with substantial online marketing budgets trying to keep their SEO and keyword positions.

Woodflooringtips.com - New Hardwood Flooring Blog
But this new client has a chance to differentiate itself from the big guys. Seneca Hardwoods in Odessa, NY USA is not a wholesaler, middle man, retail chain or even corporate behemoth with brands. They are truly a hardwood flooring manufacturer. They get raw hardwood logs and in their own mill and make wood floors for you. In many cases, you may call to order and they will actually custom mill your floor for you! And they are very competitive in terms of hardwood flooring pricing. They have to be. The new blog is designed to promote their business website, senecahardwoods.com.

Search engine keyword research is step one in building a successful Third Party Blog. We wrote a blog post in July 2009, The Key is Keywords that really breaks down the reason for SEO keyword research.
In consultations with clients, we focus on the competitive marketplace that they reside in. We look existing meta tags and their existing keywords for their business website and then using search engine keyword research, we find out if those meta tags get reasonable search traffic. We then look at the search “competition” for those meta tag keywords. (more…)
Many blog owners look for outside or ghost writers to help them get good content in their blog. You might do a Google search for “blog writing services” and find quite few firms offering this service. And it is not without some merit. If you can partner with a blog writer that is an SEO professional and understands your needs, you can probably purchase good, custom, relevant blog posts for your marketplace. We can not assure the quality of any of their services, but a few we have found are:
While the approach of these types of service providers differs slightly, you can get blog posts from each. Ezinearticles has thousands of approved posts already organized by category so that you can look for content that relates to your marketplace or keywords. The blog posts are free, but you must abide by their strict Terms of Service which means no modification of the article whatsoever. Plus proper credits, links etc. This is great if you can find the right articles for your needs.
Other blog services sites offer various pay for blog post plans. Some charge by word, per post or discounts for higher volume post packages. If you are providing a blog written in English, be careful to get sample posts to judge the quality of the writing and the readability. Many of the writers are offshore or English is not their primary language. This may be perfectly OK, or it may be a big problem leaving you with rewrites and editing issues. (more…)
Third Party Blogs was contacted by ReactionPro LLC, a company that builds a cool defensive baseball training aid. It is called the ReactionPro Pad. This baseball training aid is great for infielder drills and catchers by simulating irregular or bad hops that are so typical in baseball. The product is already distributed in many major leading sporting good stores.

They wanted us to build a third party blog to better promote the product and some upcoming events that they are sponsoring. So we did. The WordPress blog is baseball-training.net
ReactionPro had started a blog themselves, but like so many companies just could not find the time to post articles to the blog. Todd Hughes from ReactionPro said “Just like it says on your blog, we want the advantages of the blog but we just don’t have the time.”

And the advantages are not just having the blog, but in a finely tuned blog programmed for maximum SEO effectiveness. So WE BLOG FOR THEM based on the best keywords for their marketplace derived from our research. We have done a fair amount of SEO optimization already. But there are months of work and optimization left to do.
The site has only been live for a few days. It already has 25+ pages/links indexed by Google and the Alexa ranking is rapidly improving.
We will be providing a complete case study on this blog and ROI for ReactionPro in the coming months. We plan to provide a time-line of SEO metric improvement and revenue growth due to an increase in traffic to their on-line store.
